After talking to a variety of performer friends from different kinds of entertainment, we’ve put together the guidelines that every prospective client needs to know prior to hiring professional entertainment.
You’re looking to book entertainers for your party or event or anniversary. Graduation anniversary, graduation, etc. Whatever the occasion you’re looking to add some spice to the event with entertainment that is live and entertaining! The first thing you need to be aware of is that entertainers of every kind, such as fire eaters, magicians or live bands, require time to plan their performances.
We usually create our shows to coincide with your special event. it takes some time, and it will factor into the cost of the show. You should provide at least three to four weeks’ notice for a performer prior to making an appointment. This is the suggested timeframe for me. However, others require more notice, while some performers can have an event booked with just 2 days notice. It’s all dependent on the schedule, current availability and bookings, and, of all, of course the artist (or her).
Our schedules are a bit erratic and completely non-traditional. we are able to perform throughout the night, day and sometimes even into late mornings. Please note: If you make a call to a performer day or two, three or four days prior to the occasion, they’ll likely be charged a bit more due to the shorter notice.
It can take some time and effort to create an event that is unique by creating customized routines, like I do, or establishing an entertainment set-list, or obtaining the necessary permits or licenses for more risky acts such as fire eating or sideshow stunts.

This is certainly one of the primary things that a prospective buyer of entertainment should be aware of. It’s important to understand that each performer, regardless of whatever their opinion, is charged differently. Fire eaters will be charged differently than a juggler or clown. Mentalists will be charged differently than a magician, and stilt walker. It is based on the way they consider their time and experience.
At a minimum, you should have an concept of what you’re hoping at spending on entertainment. Do not be afraid inquire with a performer about whether he is able to stay in your financial budget. Be realistic and think about the event and the kind of picture that you would like your guests to bring with them home and then try to come up with an idea of how much you’d be willing to spend to achieve the desired image. We won’t be insulted by putting a price on your budget. We’ll simply refuse to speak with you in a polite manner or suggest someone else who can better stay within your budgetary limits.
Entertainers generally know each other and bounce around quite some. We usually know the price our peers and rivals cost. The more distinctive the style of performance and the more unique the performance, the less performers. If you’re looking at $200 for a complete length hypnosis show, you might be interested in a different method of entertainment.
The majority of hypnotists stay at home with less than the triple amount. If you’ve got $5,000 to spend on entertainment, then you’re part of an entirely new category of entertainers. We’ll talk about that in the future.

Instead, you can opt for an evening of strolling entertainment such as live music or even a group of dancers.
The most frequent place for family gatherings such as graduations, anniversaries, graduations and private holiday celebrations. There isn’t the same amount of excitement similar to what you’d see in a nightclub. These events are usually full of friends, family members and kids. Everyone is well-connected is comfortable and not afraid of being a bit silly at times. It’s a great time to hire the services of a professional hypnotist! Or even personal tarot readings. Absolutely a wonderful time for an experience of mind reading.
The goal is to utilize your space to its fullest potential. Imagine the scene in your head using the entertainment that you envision in your mind. If you think it’s possible take it on. You’re probably right!
As performers, we all do our best to deliver the best entertainment at the best value. Prices vary however, with different prices depending on the services we provide as well as where we live as well as the equipment we will need to transport and so on. I am a huge fan of donating my time and energy to these organizations and having a small portion of making the difference. The entertainers we work with are filled with emotion and big hearts . We enjoy seeing the joy on faces of people who might be grieving.
Be aware of your circumstances when you offer your event or performance to an artist at the smallest amount or none at all. If it’s a cause we are passionate about and are able to spare time on our schedules, then we would be thrilled to offer it. If not, not take it personal and remember that we must be as productive and earn the most feasible to continue training people all over the globe.
The tedious details of booking many documents, agreements and invoices that nearly all performers require are crucial to the quality of their performance. Contracts are essential for performers to have and we’ll use them from the smallest event to the most prestigious occasion. We’ve all experienced “being burned” on bookings due to the lack of written agreements in place. We can learn quickly (well we do for the most part) and apply the rules of contract for ALL bookings, including the time-based bookings that are donated. Don’t be offended when your child’s magician demands an agreement for his show.
We keep precise records of each job we do. Contracts, invoices, and emails are all necessary documents for tax-related purposes as well as for marketing strategies and overall tranquility. Personally, I require an invoice, contract, along with a performance-related rider to my show. A majority of the provisions in my contracts do not have to be applied to every show. However, the majority times they will apply.

I’m sure I’ve discussed the subject in previous posts, however it’s vital to know what you’re paying for when you book an entertainer. Keep in mind that we’ve spent many years working on our craft to look perfect when the time comes to perform. A lot of us live away from the venue and need to travel a considerable distance to reach the event.
I personally travel around 35,000 miles each year to perform and fly around forty thousand miles. We spend most of time in the airport, in cars, and on traffic! Our fee structure is formulated by us on the basis of what we think our performances are worth.
This includes years of experience, transport between the venue and home as well as all work we put in prior to the event as well as the kind of event it is as well as how popular and sought-after we are. Cheaper does NOT mean better!
I’d say that I’ve had to wait for about two years of days to be paid for certain occasions. This is no longer the case. It’s not acceptable to force a performer to wait for longer than they agreed date of payment. Our shows are unique performances and no show is exactly the identical (at at least for an entertainer). What you’re getting is an experience that’s unique.
One way to look at this is this Imagine that you had to work for a week without interruption and your boss told you “Sorry, but would it be okay if we paid you in three weeks for this week?” You’d probably be sacked. This is exactly what we feel like when we are waiting for payment for services we rendered. We were punctually, completed the task professionally and anticipate being paid accordingly.
It is standard to pay entertainers prior to the beginning of the show. The majority of us will require a down payment of some sort in addition to our invoice or contract which is signed. The ones who don’t need the deposit (well it’s a good idea to) must be paid in all cash at the time of the celebration. Be conscious of this when hiring entertainers for the next event.
